Off-campus Resources in Blacksburg

In 2017, The Center for Collegiate Mental Health Report found “nearly 40 percent of college students sought mental health help, that number is up from 30 percent back in 2015.” According to another statistic by Lauren Wilson, "In the U.S. on average, there's only one campus counselor for every 1,700 students." With such a large increase in students seeking help and a limited amount of counselors, it really puts a strain on just how much on campus resources can do. You might also run into the problem where the on campus resources don't offer the kind of help you need. That's why we want to make it known that there are more options available than just the Cook Counseling Center. As you can see in Figure 1, in a survey we conducted, out of the 32 respondants only 56% knew 1-2 off campus resources while the rest knew about 0.

Graph about off campus resources awareness. 56% know 1-2 resources while 44% know about 0.

On this page, we listed some of the resources we found that we thought could be beneficial to you. The five listed below are all close enough to campus that they would be accessible by bus if needed. For further information about any of them, the links to their websites will be provided.
